Robotic vacuum cleaners were first introduced to the consumer in 2001 with the advent of the Electrolux, but they became extinct after the company iRobot came out with a much better product we now know as the Roomba which took the robotic vacuum to the next level, while becoming the industry standard. Over the years the technology has become even better and the Roomba has quite a cult following of owners. Is this Roomba cult really worth all the hype, or are these robots just over-priced gadgets for the rich and lazy. I must say I was quite intrigued, so I went out and got myself one and wanted to share my thoughts with you.
So, lets’ take a look at the Roomba 560 and how it performs. This is the robotic vacuum cleaner that can be scheduled to navigate autonomously throughout your home up to seven times per week. The Roomba 560 vacuuming robot picks up astonishing amounts of dirt and debris with the simple touch of a button. After it is through with vacuuming, the robot returns to its self-charging Home Base to dock and recharge between cleaning cycles or when the battery starts to run low. For added convenience, the vacuum’s cleaning head automatically adjusts to transition from wood, tile, and linoleum to carpets and rugs, while improved anti-tangle technology ensures it will not get stuck on cords and rug fringe. It comes with comes which can be either “lighthouses” (to tell the Roomba to vacuum only a certain area) or “virtual walls” to create invisible barriers to prevent Roomba from vacuuming certain rooms.
I have come to the conclusion that the Roomba is more than just a novelty. It’s actually a really, really good vacuum. The fact that it’s a robot isn’t just a boon to the lazy. So far it has exceeded my expectations and I judge it’s cleaning job by the grit on my bare feet, which as I said is virtually non-existent now. The Roomba 560 is extremely well made, making cleaning easy and convenient, while doing more of the work for you. My floors are cleaner, my house smells better, and I just laugh when I’m doing other chores or playing on my computer while my robot is cleaning.
